I’m a huge fan of good food and great deals, so Trestle has been on my list for ages, and thankfully, I can finally get to trying things again since we are nearly the end of the pandemic (unless I just jinxed things). Then, when I had some family visiting, it seemed like a great way to enjoy a great night out with them without dragging them someplace for over $100 a person! So after doing some amazing wine tasting nearby at the Ritz-Carlton, we walked over to Trestle (which at the time was serving out of The Vault, but has since moved back to its original location on Columbus and Jackson).
For $39, a person gets a three course meal at Trestle (starter, main and dessert), and for just around $12 more, they can add in a fourth pasta course between the starter and main. It seemed like a fantastic deal, so we definitely added in the pasta course so we could fully enjoy what they had to offer. I also have to point out they had a phenomenal wine list, but I’m not sure if it was wine they brought for the new location, or wine that was already at The Vault, so I have to hold off on really recommending the wine list, although we did have some fantastic red wine from Austria that impressed us all.
The first course offered a choice between corn soup or a burrata salad, and both were ordered at the table. I really enjoyed the burrata salad, but the corn soup may have been the winning choice for the evening. The only small quibble I have with the courses, and the meal as a whole really, is that every dish was slightly underseasoned. A small hit of salt and pepper would really have upped the dishes considerably. That being said, they were very well presented, and they were solid dishes.
Both pasta options were also ordered at the table, consisting of cauliflower risotto and three cheese tortellini. Again, both really well presented and cooked dishes, with my preference being for the tortellini. For the main course, everyone wanted the pork shoulder, so the salmon option wasn’t ordered, and we were all pleasantly happy with what we had. Last up was dessert, and both the whipped cheesecake and the chocolate pots de creme were brought to the table, with both dishes being enjoyed thoroughly by everyone.
I wasn’t too sure what to expect from Trestle, as the price had me wary, but I had also heard decent things from word of mouth, and I think for the price, we were definitely treated to a great meal with excellent service. It definitely wasn’t the best meal I have had, but it really was quite a deal for the quality of food we were provided. Again the wine was excellent, and I hope they have some of the selection they had that night at their original location. If you’re looking for an high quality meal that won’t break the bank, Trestle is definitely a solid choice for a night out in San Francisco
Score: 4/5
Recommendation: Well, there’s only a prix fixe menu, but you may as well get the supplemental course for the price!
