I think sometimes I end up with a one-track mind as fried chicken has been a recurring theme in my eating patterns the last few months. Maybe I just haven’t been content with the ones I’ve tried, or maybe once I start eating it, I want more. Either way, after having fried chicken at a few different places over the last couple of months, I found myself at Proposition Chicken to give theirs a try. I basically only knew about them because they’ve been liking my Instagram posts, but I suppose it worked, as it got me into their shop to give it a try.
I arrived closed to opening for lunch, and it really wasn’t that busy. I suppose it could be the area though, as I hear that a lot of places around there don’t get a lot of lunch business as the tech companies in the area supply free food for lunch. Either way, there was not a lot of business the entire time I was there. I was having a bit of difficulty deciding between the fried chicken sandwich or the fried chicken plate. Once I learned it was a chicken breast in the sandwich, however, I decided the plate was the way to go. The platter comes with three pieces of fried chicken, a biscuit and a tomato and cucumber salad. I also decided to try the sage fries, as my recent foray into sage fries in a recent round of the Great Burger Hunt had me hooked.
Everything looked pretty great when it arrived. And the chicken had a nice crisp exterior and wasn’t at all greasy; however the white meat was slightly overcooked. They do have a couple of different hot sauces available to dip the chicken into and they were tasty and added a bit of heat to the chicken. The biscuit was pretty good, and I was a really big fan of the tomato and cucumber salad as it was really light and refreshing to counterbalance the fried chicken. The fries were nice, but definitely not nearly as good as the sage fries I had had before.
All in all, proposition chicken was some tasty chicken, especially for the price. It wasn’t a ridiculous amount of food, so you don’t have to feel that bad about eating it for lunch. I am curious about the sandwich, as a good chicken sandwich can be hard to find. It’s definitely not the best fried chicken I’ve had, but it’s far from the worst. They seem to spend a lot of time on trying to make their food fresh and that is definitely a plus in my book.
Score: 3.5/5
Recommendation: Fried chicken platter so you can get the biscuit and salad!
