I became aware of Pistache when they showed up on my Instagram, and the cookies looked fantastic. After checking out their website, not only did they look amazing, the unusual flavors sounded like something I wanted to try. They do pride themselves on being for fans of soft cookies, so I was a bit wary, but really the best way to try out new places is just to dive in. Their website says you can buy their cookies at a cafe in the Mission, but it turns out they only provide a small selection of their cookie flavors there, so if you want to try a wider selection, you’ll have to order online, either to pick up there or get delivered. I went for two boxes of four (mostly because the next size up was a selection box, and I wanted to get two of each). I selected the black sesame, yuzu white chocolate, macadamia creme brulee, and of course, the pistachio praline. They also have a monthly special cookie.
Overall, I was pretty pleased with the flavors of the cookies. Some were better than others, but I would happily enjoy the flavor combinations anytime. The cookies are quite soft, and in some cases, the cookies did feel more like a small cake than a large cookie, which is a bit unfortunate if you are expecting a cookie. They’re definitely a small, local business, and now that I know what the texture is, I’m sure I’ll be partaking in the future, probably if I’m near the cafe in the Mission!
Score: 4/5
Recommendation: I think the sesame was my favorite, followed by the pistachio!
