In San Francisco, The scope of the Ferry Building in is ever changing. Since I’ve moved back, the number of shops and restaurants there that are the same now as they were then is small. Some of my favorites have closed, but new places are always moving in, which gives me even more food to try. I was really excited to hear about Peaches Patties, a Jamaican restaurant, opening a stand there. They started out as a bay area catering company, but have expanded to a small stall restaurant.
Of course, I had to get the Jamaican Patty Meal ($16.50). My grandmother used to always say “If you go to a pea soup restaurant, you order the pea soup”, so ordering a patty felt like a must. They have a selection of different patties: Beef, curry chicken, lentil or spinach. The chicken curry sounded the best to me, so I had to go for it. The Patty Meal is served with a side of rice, veggies and fried plantains. The rice and beans were really tasty, and the veggies had a light curry sauce on them that really made them flavorful. The patty itself was outstanding with a lot more spice than I was expecting. (Yes, it’s curry chicken, but a lot of places really tone it down depending on the crowd, and I was glad this was not the case here.) The pastry casing around the patty was also flaky and delicious. And who doesn’t love a good friend plantain?
Peaches Patties is definitely one of my new favorites around the Ferry Building, and they also sell the patties individually if you decide that maybe you want to try some of the other food around the place, but it’s definitely worth stopping by to give it a go!
Score: 4.5/5
Recommendation: Patties. All the way.
