I had come to Nommo previously to give their burger a try for my burger hunt, and I liked the drinks and atmosphere enough to want to come back and give it another try. (Ironically, I seem to have forgotten to include the burger on my list, maybe another return trip will be necessary.) So we found ourselves here one evening to try some of the food and drinks after a long day out.
There’s a pretty decent wine list. It’s not very long, but they have some unusual bottles on the menu. And the cocktails are pretty great too. There’s a nice range of drinks, and several of them are on the very boozy side, so they definitely provide drinks I can get behind. They have an extensive charcuterie list as well, though a bit on the pricey side, so we decided on some Proscuitto and melon, fried chicken and pulled pork sliders to share.
The melon and Proscuitto came out first, and I have to say, it did look appetizing. And, it was really tasty. I do love a nice melon and Proscuitto, but having really fresh ingredients can really make the dish. Also, they cure all their own meats, so it really does add something a little extra to the dish.
Up next were the sliders. This was another excellent dish. The pork was really tender and juicy, and there were great toppings with it. The bread was also grilled nicely to just give it that little extra bit of flavor. Finally, the fried chicken came out. It did look really nice. However, it was quite dry. The breast meat was very overcooked, and even the dark meat felt like it needed less time in the fryer. It was also served with a good amount of fries, so at least it felt like a good value for money. And the dipping sauces it came with were also pretty spot on.
I do like the atmosphere of Nommo, but it’s a bit out of the way. Every time I’ve been, it’s been a bit empty, so it does have me slightly worried, but perhaps I just go at off times. I know that my partner really enjoyed the mussels one time when he went on his own (thanks to burger club), so they do make some really great food, but it does seem to be hit or miss. However, if you want a great atmosphere with some good drinks and great charcuterie, I think Nommo is probably a good place to hit up. And they do an all-day happy hour on Sundays so that’s always a good thing to keep in mind!
Score: 3.5/5
Recommendation: Charcuterie! (And maybe even more charcuterie!)
