There are two things that I love for lunch: A good sandwich and a good food truck. So when I saw Subs on Hubs in the area, I knew it was going to be one I was going to have to find to give a try. Of course, then it took me quite awhile before I managed to find it again, but when I did, I made a beeline over to it to order a sandwich.
On my first visit, I decided to get the meatball sub, because I do love a good meatball sub, but they seem to be a bit harder to find these days unless you want to get a subpar one from Subway. There was also a bit of a kerfuffle with the bluetooth on their ipad not connecting to the credit card machine, so after I quickly manage to fix it by turning the bluetooth off then on again for the man in the truck, I left with my hefty sandwich. And it was really enjoyable. The meatballs were soft and full of flavor packed with great marinara sauce on a nice loaf of bread.
So I found myself back for another try, this time going for the Hoboken Hoagie with a mix of meats with some olives and a red wine vinaigrette. The truck guy asked me if I was a regular, and I explained it was the first one I had. Apparently it’s a pretty common sub back in New York (even though Hoboken is in New Jersey…albeit right across the border), and he told me how it was uncommon to find one on the west coast. It sounded delicious so I took it home to give a try. And it really was. I do love a mix of Italian salamis on a sandwich, and the olives and vinaigrette really added a nice brininess to the sandwich.
I have to say that I did get two delicious sandwiches from Subs on Hubs, so it’s definitely going to stay in the rotation for places to grab a lunch time sandwich if I see it nearby. They have a pretty extensive menu of hot and cold subs, so I’m sure that I’ll have plenty to try out before finding out which ones are my favorites.
Score: 4/5
Recommendation: Hoboken Hoagie!
