With the abundance of workers in Soma due to the completion of the Salesforce tower, many food truck sites are popping up all over. Off the Grid has two new locations: Outside the Salesforce Tower and across the Embarcadero from the Ferry Building. I swung by the Salesforce Tower and decided I needed to give the $10 Gyrritö from Kaböb Trölley a try. (Please don’t hate me for the umlauts; I’m not the one who put them there.) It is basically a gyro wrapped with rice in a tortilla, basically the fusion food concept at work. They have a variety of fillings (including a vegetarian option), and I went with the lamb/beef gyro meat. I also had to go with the California style including french fries inside for only $2 more. They also provide spicy or regular tzatziki for your enjoyment.
It’s a pretty good-sized lunch for the price, and I couldn’t wait to dig in. It had a fairly nice and standard flavor, but the slight heat from the sauce really added quite a bit. So did the addition of french fries inside. Everything is wrapped a bit strangely, so it’s quite easy to get pockets of filling though. But overall, I really enjoyed it, and I guess that is the important thing.
They also have a variety of other options (not just the burrito), so I think I’ll be giving them another try at some point in the future. The Gyro fries definitely grabbed my attention, perhaps for one of those days I really just need something ridiculous for lunch!
Score: 4/5
Recommendation: Cali-style Gyrritö!
