There is a ton of street food in India (and I was told on my trip there not to eat the street food because do more harm than how good it might taste), but it is great to see that Indian street food has made its way to the food trucks in America. I saw that Dum Indian Soulfood was nearby, so I decided to give them a try. The whole menu looked fantastic, with several Kati rolls, a couple of biryanis, samosas and samosa chaat. I wasn’t in the mood for rice, and since I love vegetarian Indian food, I went for the Paneer Kati rolls and the Samosa Chaat. They offer it as a combo meal with a half order of the Samosa, so that was nice in order to try a couple of different things.
The food was very tasty filled with the Indian flavors I love. I love a samosa chaat, with the broken samosa underneath (and it had a great crispy pastry) smothered in chickpeas and sauce. The paneer rolls were made with a paneer masala (that had a pretty nice curry flavor) with some onion and lime wrapped in paratha. Paratha is one of my favorites, so I was really happy with the rolls as well. I wasn’t expecting two rolls, so it’s a hefty meal for the price. The only downside is that the samosa chaat wasn’t enclosed in anything, so transport away from the truck was a bit difficult!
It’s definitely a great food truck, and it’s one I would go back to again. Maybe I’ll be in the mood for rice next time and I can try one of their biryanis, but it will be difficult for me to not want to get their amazing rolls again too!
Score: 4/5
Recommendation: Paneer Kati rolls, especially if you love a good cheese curry!
