I had seen Adam’s Grub Truck on a few lists of food trucks around San Francisco, and the sandwiches did look epic — piled with stuff and looking like they would have strong Asian flavors. As I’m a huge fan of Asian fusion fried chicken sandwiches, I knew it was going to be one of the trucks in the city that I was going to have to try out. Luckily, they are fairly permanently settled in at Spark Social SF, so one sunny day for lunch, I trekked over there so I could give it a try.
The menu is fairly extensive, and I really was having a bit of an ordering dilemma. There was a lot of different flavors of sandwiches, but ultimately I decided to go with The Falkor, a panko crusted fried chicken sandwich with slaw, a fried egg and pepper jack cheese. I also got a side of waffle fries. Then I waited (quite awhile actually) for my food to get prepared.
Perhaps I ordered wrong, but the sandwich was really uninteresting. For an Asian fusion themed truck, the Asian flavors were practically non-existent. The chicken was really dry and overcooked, and one end of it was slightly burnt. The bun was nice, but overall, I was really disappointed in the sandwich as I’ve just had so many better Asian chicken sandwiches in the past. The fries were fine, but not amazing. Sadly, Adam’s Grub Truck didn’t give me the wows that I was hoping for and many other people had said they had. I don’t think I’d come back.
Score: 2.5/5
Recommendation: If you’re at Spark Social SF, you have a plethora of options available to you that aren’t Adam’s.
