I love to bake, but sometimes I really just want to get some delicious treats with little-to-no effort. Who wouldn’t want to just get a box of assorted goodies to try out over the weekend? Drool provides just that. They started fairly recently so are pretty in-demand at the moment, but after signing up to their mailing list, I finally managed to order a box online!
Drool’s premise is that they want to provide luxury desserts for you in the privacy of your own home. The pastry chef has worked at several high end restaurants in San Francisco, so I had high expectations. They only allow for pickup or local delivery, so it’s not something you can get shipped! Luckily, they aren’t far from my abode, so stopping by to pick up on a Saturday afternoon was fairly straightforward.
Inside the box was an amazing looking assortment! Obviously the largest and most captivating was the lemon meringue tart. There was also a small cake, two giant chocolate peanut cookies, a bag of granola, some chocolate truffles, caramels and nougat. There were definitely plenty of goodies for the two of us to enjoy over the course of the weekend!
But of course you must be wondering how everything was! We tried the chocolate cookies first, and while I was expecting them to be super peanut buttery basted on the shape, they weren’t quite what I was expected. There was a layer of caramel inside that was delicious, but they did end up being overly sweet given they were covered in milk chocolate as well. (Perhaps some sort of fruit jelly instead of caramel would balance that problem). It was the first thing we tried and probably our least favorite, which is probably a good thing as it means everything else in the box was more to our liking!
The tart was fantastic with a nice meringue layer under the acidic lemon tart filling. I also really enjoyed the cake, even after a day it was very moist. Both the caramel and the nougat were delicious. The granola had some nice tropical dried fruits, and would have made a great breakfast if we didn’t just snack on it all weekend. The truffles were nice and definitely looked interesting by trying to make them look like savory truffles, but I definitely prefer a bit smoother texture with my truffles. They definitely gave a good hit of chocolate though.
Did I enjoy the Drool Box? Definitely! While some things were slightly out of balance, there was some amazing presentation and some deliciou sand interesting flavors. Would I get another? Probably in the future when enough of the box contents have been swapped out for some new stuff. Would I recommend it? Absolutely!
