The pandemic has been a good time to try out some local bakeries and enjoy weekends full of baked goods! I do love my baking, but a lot of bakeries have been putting together boxed selections of goodies to enjoy, and that means I don’t have to bake so many things and get to try a variety! I’m a huge fan of choux pastry and French goodies, so Choux seemed like the perfect choice for a deliciously sweet weekend!
They offer a variety of boxes, from boxes of just cream puffs, to things that have a much larger selection of large and small baked goods. I went for the weekend box, consisting of four different profiteroles (cream puffs), a challah bread, a selection of pates de fruit, two large chef’s choice selections and three small chef’s choice selections. I didn’t really know what I was getting, but large choices ended up being a bread pudding and some sort of cake/roll with blueberries and the small choices were a brownie, a canele and a raspberry financier.
So the profiteroles are literally some of the best ones I’ve ever eaten in my life. They were that good. We had four different flavors, and each one was a decadent pastry cream encased in some amazing choux pastry, so they really lived up to their name. I used the Challah to make some French toast and it didn’t disappoint either. The bread pudding was tasty, but a little dry.
The brownie is a rich, flourless brownie, and while it wasn’t exactly the style I like, it definitely filled a chocolate void in my life. The canele was reminiscent of being in Bordeaux, and it definitely reminded me I needed to make a batch at home very soon. The blueberry bun and financier were nice as well. The pates de fruit were pretty intensely flavored! Everything we ate really was nice on the palate, and I know that I’m going to be ordering from them again, although it may just be a ton of those amazing profiteroles!
Score: 4/5
Recommendation: Get the profiteroles/cream puffs.
